Surveillance and Captured Power
Surveillance is the license given to the people who are on the top of that, to control our lives. They will commit crimes. They will commit the worst of crimes. What I call mega crimes...a mega crime is one where you foreclose on a million home owners and don't go to jail. We are doing surveillance and analytics to capture a petty drug dealer who is selling pot for Bitcoin. Who is doing surveillance and analytics on Lockheed Martin? Who is doing surveillance and analytics on the money laundering banks? Nobody. Do you know why? None of them ever go to jail. The regulators are completely captured. And the very system of controlling finance from above by having leavers of power of the lives of millions people...of having the audacity to cut off entire countries. And say, they are under sactions. They're not priveledge enough. They're not people enough to gain financial services. Guess who that attracts? If you build levers of power like that. The very worst sociopaths in our society are attracted like flies to shit to grab hold of those levers of power and destroy all of your freedoms as quickly as they can. We are building societies in which one bad election is the last election. And if you don't believe me, look at what happened in....

Strategic Delay Diversified Outcomes Calculated Risk Hope
The sultan (of Persia) had sentenced two men to death. One of them, knowing how much the sultan loved his stallion, offered to teach the horse to fly within a year in return for his life. The sultan, fancying himself as the rider of the only flying horse in the world, agreed. The other prisoner looked at his friend in disbelief. “You know horses don’t fly. What made you come up with a crazy idea like that? You’are only postponing the inevitable.” “Not so,” said the first, “I have actually given myself four chances for freedom. First, the sultan might die during the year. Second, I might die. Third, the horse might die. And fourth, I might teach the horse to fly!”

Guns, Knives, Money, Law, Power and Rules
If you hold a Gun and I hold a Gun, we can talk about the law.
If you hold a a knife and I hold a knife, we can talk about RULES.
If you come empty handed and I come empty handed, we can talk about REASONS.
But if you hold a Gun and I hold a knife then the truth lies in your HANDS.
If you have a Gun and I have nothing, what you hold isn’t just a weapon BUT MY LIFE.
The concept of LAW RULES AND MORALITY only holds meaning when they are based on equality.
The harsh truth of this world is that when money speaks, truth is silent, and when power speaks, even money takes three steps back.
Those who create the rules are often the first to break them.
Rules are chains for the weak, tools for the strong.

Go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise, don’t even start.
This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind.
It could mean not eating for three or four days.
It could mean freezing on a park bench.
It could mean jail.
It could mean derision.
It could mean mockery — isolation.
Isolation is a gift.
All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it.
And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds.
And it will be better than anything else you can imagine.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.

You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire.
You will ride life straight to perfect laughter.

Because your thoughts are scattered.
Because your goals are undefined.

Rich in purpose.
Rich in self-discipline.

Do you think Edison waited until he had no doubts?
No.
They acted despite their fears.

A focused mind.
You become what you think about
That's not just a nice quote for a poster.
That is a formula.
That is a law.
Your thoughts are seeds
Your emotions water them
Your habits harvest them
And your life?
That's the field you've grown.
So let's be honest--what have you been planting?
Doubt?
Excuses?
Fear as failure dressed up as "being realistic"?

Chapter 8 teaches investors to ignore daily market jitters and focus on the intrinsic value of their investments, avoiding impulsive decisions based on fear or greed. Chapter 20 highlights the principle of purchasing stocks at a price significantly below their estimated intrinsic value, creating a buffer against market downturns and miscalculations.

W. Brian Arthur's work on path dependence and lock-in
W. Brian Arthur's work on path dependence and lock-in, particularly in the context of technology, highlights how early decisions and historical events can shape the trajectory of innovation and lead to the dominance of certain technologies or practices, even if superior alternatives exist. This concept, often linked to increasing returns, suggests that small, seemingly insignificant events can be amplified by positive feedback loops, leading to a "winner-take-all" scenario where one technology becomes dominant and locks out other, potentially better options
-
W brian Arthur The Native Technology and how it evolves increasing returns economics
W. Brian Arthur's work, particularly his theory of increasing returns and path dependence, explains how technology evolves and how some markets get locked into specific dominant technologies. He argues that technology, like life, evolves through a process of creation out of itself, rather than being solely driven by individual genius. This evolution is influenced by positive feedback loops and network effects, where the success of a technology leads to its increased adoption and dominance, even if other options are available

Private Banks Thomas Jefferson
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

Democracy and the Decline
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

Incredulity at the Illiteracy of Scientists
A good many times I have been present at gatherings of people who, by the standards of the traditional culture, are thought highly educated and who have with considerable gusto been expressing their incredulity at the illiteracy of scientists. Once or twice, I have been provoked and have asked the company how many of them could describe the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The response was cold: it was also negative. Yet I was asking something which is the scientific equivalent of: Have you read a work of Shakespeare's*?*****

Impossibility of a Solution to Certain Problems Plays an Important Role
In modern mathematics, the question of the impossibility of a solution to certain problems plays an important role, and attempts to answer such questions have often been the occasion of discovering new and fruitful fields for research.
We recall in this connection the demonstration by Abel of the impossibility of solving an equation of the fifth degree by means of radicals, the discovery of the impossibility of demonstrating the axiom of parallels, and finally the theorems of Hermite and Lindeman concerning the impossibility of constructing by algebraic means the numbers e and π.

Market Interest Rate vs. Central Bank Policy Rates
"Market interest rate" and "central bank policy rates" are related but distinct concepts in the field of economics and finance.
Market Interest Rate:
-
Market interest rates are the rates at which borrowers and lenders in the open market agree to exchange funds. These rates are determined by the supply and demand for credit in the financial markets.
-
Market interest rates can fluctuate based on a variety of factors, including inflation expectations, economic conditions, and investor sentiment.
-
Common examples of market interest rates include the yields on government bonds, corporate bonds, mortgage rates, and the rates on savings accounts or certificates of deposit offered by commercial banks.
-
Market interest rates are influenced by central bank policy rates, but they are also influenced by a wide range of market forces and investor perceptions. Central Bank Policy Rates:
-
Central bank policy rates, also known as monetary policy rates, are set by a country's central bank (e.g., the Federal Reserve in the United States, the European Central Bank in the Eurozone) and are a part of the central bank's monetary policy toolkit.
-
Central banks use policy rates to influence the broader economy. They may raise policy rates to cool down an overheating economy and combat inflation or lower rates to stimulate economic growth and counteract recessions.
-
The most common central bank policy rate is the "policy interest rate" or "target federal funds rate" in the case of the U.S. Federal Reserve. Other examples include the Bank of England's "Bank Rate" and the European Central Bank's "Main Refinancing Operations Rate."
-
Changes in central bank policy rates can have a cascading effect on the broader economy, including influencing market interest rates. When central banks raise policy rates, market interest rates often follow suit, making borrowing more expensive. Conversely, when central banks lower policy rates, it can lead to lower market interest rates. In summary, market interest rates are determined by the open market and influenced by a wide range of market dynamics, while central bank policy rates are set by a country's central bank and are a tool for managing the overall economy. Changes in central bank policy rates can impact market interest rates, but they are not the sole factor determining market interest rate levels.

MLK All Too Many Others Have Been More Cautious Than Courageous
When I was suddenly catapulted into the leadership of the bus protest in Montgomery, Alabama, a few years ago, I felt we would be supported by the white church. I felt that the white ministers, priests and rabbis of the South would be among our strongest allies. Instead, some have been outright opponents, refusing to understand the freedom movement and misrepresenting its leaders; all too many others have been more cautious than courageous and have remained silent behind the anesthetizing security of stained-glass windows.

Signs of a Doomed Society
When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.

We Are Not Fully Equipped by Our Senses for Forming an Impersonal Picture of the World
It will be seen that we are not fully equipped by our senses for forming an impersonal picture of the world. And it is because the deficiency is manifest that we do not hesitate to advocate a conception of the world which transcends the images familiar to the senses. Such a world can perhaps be grasped, but not pictured by the brain. It would be unreasonable to limit our thought of nature to what can be comprised in sense-pictures. As Lodge has said, our senses were developed by the struggle for existence, not for the purpose of philosophising on the world.

Camus the Plague and Shakespear King Learthinly Disguised Allegory of Human Nature
The historian Tony Judt once told me that Albert Camus's novel The Plague was about the plague in the same sense that King Lear is about a king named Lear. In The Plague, a biological cataclysm becomes the testing ground for our fallibilities, desires, and ambitions. You cannot read The Plague except as a thinly disguised allegory of human nature.

In the Case of the Laws of Nature Being Suspended You Have to Ask Yourself Have They Been Suspended in My Favor Am I Possibly Under Misapprehension
“A miracle is a violation of the laws of nature; and because firm and unalterable experience has established these laws, the case against a miracle is—just because it is a miracle—as complete as any argument from experience can possibly be imagined to be. Why is it more than merely probable that all men must die, that lead cannot when not supported remain suspended in the air, that fire consumes wood and is extinguished by water, unless it is that these events are found agreeable to the laws of nature, and for things to go differently there would have to be a violation of those laws, or in other words a miracle? Nothing is counted as a miracle if it ever happens in the common course of nature. When a man who seems to be in good health suddenly dies, this isn't a miracle; because such a kind of death, though more unusual than any other, has yet often been observed to happen. But a dead man’s coming to life would be a miracle, because that has never been observed in any age or country. So there must be a uniform experience against every miraculous event, because otherwise the event wouldn't count as a ‘miracle’. And as a uniform experience amounts to a proof, we have here a direct and full proof against the existence of any miracle, just because it’s a miracle; and such a proof can’t be destroyed or the miracle made credible except by an opposite proof that is even stronger.
This clearly leads us to a general maxim that deserves of our attention:
No testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle unless it is of such a kind that its falsehood would be more miraculous than the fact that it tries to establish. And even in that case there is a mutual destruction of arguments, and the stronger one only gives us an assurance suitable to the force that remains to it after the force needed to cancel the other has been subtracted.”
